Mission

The Tidewater Community Writing Center (TCWC) hopes to bridge the gap between ideas and their written expression.

In partnership with Christopher Newport University’s Alice F. Randall Writing Center and the Center for Community Engagement, we offer support for writers of all backgrounds and abilities, for writers working in professional, creative, or personal capacities.

As a staff, we are passionate about writing and building connections with other writers to help support each others’ confidence in the practice of writing. For us, the community is the center, and writing forms bonds between us.

Vision Statement

The Tidewater Community Writing Center is an open space for writers to work on their projects individually or with a writing consultant. We encourage community members to drop-in to work in the space, even if they aren’t meeting with a writing consultant.

Inclusivity Statement

At the CNU Writing Center, we know that it is our duty to recognize and celebrate the English Language in all forms and dialects, as well as the wide variety of writers that will come through our doors for assistance. We are dedicated to bettering Christopher Newport University as an academic environment not simply by condemning intolerance, but by continuously adapting to promote comfort, accessibility, and creative freedom for all of our students.

Accessibility

The TCWC is a free, open-access community resource for all writers, teens and older. We offer wifi, reference materials, and general writing accountability. Elevator access is available.

Non-Denominational Statement

The Tidewater Community Writing Center is not a faith-based organization and claims no denomination or religious affiliation. We welcome those of all faiths and religious backgrounds.
