  • Virtual Consultations: meet virtually (via phone or Google Meet) with a trained volunteer consultant on any type of writing. Duration: 30 minutes. Sign-up for a virtual consultation.
  • Feedback Consultations: submit a draft and receive feedback from a trained volunteer consultant within 48 hours of receiving your writing. Page limit: no more than 10 double-spaced pages or 2,500 words. Complete this form to submit your draft.

Community members can visit the Tidewater Community Writing Center by scheduling a virtual appointment, an in-person appointment or emailing us a draft of their essay. Our services are available for teens and adults, including public, private, and home-schooled high school students, adults seeking professional advice, incarcerated and recently paroled individuals, and those who need other advice about writing.

Accessibility

The TCWC is a free, open-access community resource for all writers, teens and older. We offer wifi, reference materials, and general writing accountability. Elevator access is available.

Services We Do Not Provide

We do not offer editing services.  We want to help you become a stronger writer. That said, we are not a drop-off proofreading or editing service.  We like talking to people.  It's what we're good at. During a session, consultants and writers will engage in a collaborative, conversation-based feedback process. We believe that by talking through ideas, writers can gain confidence and strength in their writing.

We do not offer ghostwriting services. The TCWC is not a ghost writing or drop-off service. Your work remains your own. Our consultants are trained not to take control of a piece at any time during a consultation, but instead to engage in a dialogue to provide feedback on your writing.
