We offer a variety of services at the Tidewater Community Writing Center to support you and your development as a writer. Including on-site access to computers, wi-fi, and various writing resource materials, we also offer writing consultations with trained writing consultants to get your project started and finished.
Public Workshops and Tutorials: We offer a series of free workshops for local organizations and writers groups. Past workshops include: resume writing, grant writing, writing a book, meditative writing, and report writing. We are eager to hear your ideas for possible workshops. To request a workshop or tutorial, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Types of Writing Consultations: Individual Writing Consultations are by email request only (email@example.com).

Virtual Consultations: meet virtually (via phone or Google Meet) with a trained volunteer consultant on any type of writing. Duration: 30 minutes.
Feedback Consultations: submit a draft and receive feedback from a trained volunteer consultant within 48 hours of receiving your writing. Page limit: no more than 10 double-spaced pages or 2,500 words. To schedule a Feedback Consultation, please fill out the TCWC Feedback Consultation Form.
*Limit of two appointments per week.
Because we are staffed completely by volunteers, we cannot guarantee consultant availability, but we will do our best to ensure you meet with a consultant in a timely manner.
Community members can visit the Tidewater Community Writing Center by scheduling a virtual appointment, an in-person appointment or emailing us a draft of their essay. Our services are available for teens and adults, including public, private, and home-schooled high school students, adults seeking professional advice, incarcerated and recently paroled individuals, and those who need other advice about writing.
The TCWC is a free, open-access community resource for all writers, teens and older. We offer our workshops at accessible community locations or through easily accessible virtual workshops. Our consultations offer collaboration, reference materials, and general writing accountability.
Services We Do NotProvide
We do not offer editing services. We want to help you become a stronger writer. That said, we are not a drop-off proofreading or editing service. We like talking to people. It's what we're good at. During a session, consultants and writers will engage in a collaborative, conversation-based feedback process. We believe that by talking through ideas, writers can gain confidence and strength in their writing.
We do not offer ghostwriting services. The TCWC is not a ghost writing or drop-off service. Your work remains your own. Our consultants are trained not to take control of a piece at any time during a consultation, but instead to engage in a dialogue to provide feedback on your writing.
